The Quill Consultancy

This one-day course is appropriate if you have not previously used Crystal Reports to produce reports from a database “back-end”, or you are self taught and wish to improve your understanding of the techniques and features of Crystal so you can get the most out of this powerful reporting tool.

Prerequisite skills/knowledge:
It is assumed you have good general computing skills, are familiar with the Windows environment and have a broad understanding of relational databases.

Topics include:

  • Creating a simple report using the Report Experts
  • Using the Select Expert to enter report selection criteria
  • Creating a report manually
  • Sorting the records on a report
  • Grouping records by category
  • Summarising records (sub-totals and grand totals)
  • Creating and editing a text object
  • Using text objects with special fields
  • Including parameter fields in a report
  • Adding additional tables to existing reports
  • Linking tables
  • Using formulae in a report to create calculated fields
  • Conditional formatting
  • Creating a cross tab summary report
  • Crystal Report charting
  • Customising the Crystal Reports environment

At the completion of the course, you should be able to create and format basic reports to sort, summarise and group data from a variety of “back-end” data sources. These reports will allow user intervention to determine the output at run-time.

This course is based on a multiple table Access database as the data source. Alternatively, the course can be customised to reflect the client database environment; such customisation may incur additional cost.

The course can be conducted using either versions 8.5 or 10 of Crystal Reports.
